Many thanks for your letter

of the 3rd September about the possibility of Cable and Wireless Limited acquiring an interest in the Hong Kong Telephone Company.

We have no particular views on the subject at the moment, except that we feel that the Hong Kong Government should certainly be consulted in view of the fact that the latter company is operating under a franchise granted by that Government.

We suggest therefore that, if you decide to pursue the matter, the Company should approach the Governor in Hong Kong on the subject.
